1526: First Battle of Panipat

Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi, the last Sultan of Delhi, and began Mughal rule in India.

1757: Battle of Plassey

Robert Clive's East India Company army defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, and the Company became a political power.

1764: Battle of Buxar

The Company beat the combined forces of Mir Qasim, Shuja-ud-Daula and Shah Alam II. In 1765 it received the diwani of Bengal, Bihar and Odisha.

1857: the Revolt

It began at Meerut on 10 May 1857. Afterwards the Company's rule ended and the British Crown took over in 1858.

1885: Indian National Congress

Founded with the help of A. O. Hume. W. C. Bonnerjee presided over its first session in Bombay.

1905: Partition of Bengal

Lord Curzon's decision sparked the Swadeshi movement. The partition was annulled in 1911.

1919: Jallianwala Bagh

On 13 April, General Dyer's troops fired on an unarmed crowd in Amritsar, an event that hardened opinion against British rule.

Non-Cooperation (1920 to 1922), Civil Disobedience with the Dandi Salt March (1930) and Quit India (1942).
